PAID parking could be introduced in the block surrounding the Bendigo Hospital.
The proposal is designed to reduce the number of hospital staff and contractors using short-term parking all day and open it up to patients and visitors.
The streets that would be impacted by the paid parking include Stewart, Bayne, Arnold and Lucan.
A report to be tabled at Wednesday's City of Greater Bendigo council meeting recommends the City install ticket parking machines and employ a dedicated parking officer to monitor paid and time restricted parking around the hospital.
The recommendation is for a "pay and display" ticketing method at 60 cents per hour.
Director of planning and development Prue Mansfield said the hospital precinct boasted one of Bendigo's highest activity levels.
"The challenge we have in relation to the hospital is that we've got a hospital that's being built and the same one is still operational," she said.
"So there's no doubt that's something that we have to think through very carefully.
"The most important thing for us is that patients and hospital visitors can find a car park, a short term car park, within a reasonable distance of the hospital."
