State of emergency in New South Wales
Thousands of people are expected to evacuate with the entire Blue Mountains, Penrith and Richmond in danger of burning over the next few days.
Premier Barry O'Farrell declared a state of emergency across New South Wales for the next 30 days, giving powers to all emergency services to deal with the catastrophe.
An emergency warning is currently in place for 38,000-hectare State Mine fire, which started in Lithgow.
Sam Stosur loses Kremlin Cup
Romanian Simona Halep captured her fifth title of the year overnight, defeating Aussie Sam Stosur in the final of the Kremlin Cup.
Halep, ranked 18th in the world, took an hour and 41 minutes to defeat the former US Open champion.
