BENDIGO Spirit holds an eight-point lead early in the second half of tonight's Women's National Basketball League clash in Sydney.
The Spirit turned up the heat at both ends of the court in the second quarter.
Bendigo won the second term, 20-10, and led 32-24 by the long break.
Elyse Penauluna and Kelsey Griffin were in great form as they scored seven points each for Spirit.
Griffin had also won eight rebounds.
Maddie Garrik, 6 points; Kelly Wilson, 5; and Gabe Richards, 4 rebounds, were also playing key roles for Bendigo.
Sydney's leading scorers were Rohanee Cox, 7; Katie-Rae Ebzery, 6; and Kathleen Scheer, 5.
Tonight's match is the first of a weekend double for Bendigo.
The Spirit plays in Canberra on Sunday.
