BENDIGO golfers Kris Mueck and Andrew Martin face an uphill battle to make the cut at the $2million Perth International.
Mueck fired a three-over par 75 and Martin a two-over 74 in Thursday's first round at the Lake Karrinyup course.
Australian duo Clint Rice and James Nitties, Korean world No. 1066 Jin Jeong and Sweden's Peter Hedblom share the first round lead at four-under.
Coming off a career-best second place in last week's WA Open, Mueck started brightly to be two-under par after seven holes.
However, he struggled from then on, making five bogeys in his next eight holes to slip to three-over par.
Martin was at two-over at the halfway mark but improved to be one-over following a par at the 15th.
He parred the next two holes before a bogey at the last.
Martin's round was made up of two birdies, 13 par, two bogeys, and a double bogey.
World No.21 Dustin Johnson shot a three-under par 69 and defending champion Bo van Pelt was one stroke further adrift.
