IAN Leamon's grandmother Evylyn was one of the original owner's of the Heritage Signature Quilt.
Mr Leamon and relatives were at Thursday's unveiling of the Bendigo artefact.
"It was found in Evylyn's possession when she died, by cleaning out her room," he said.
"We think her mum won the quilt through a raffle.
"After finding the quilt another family member donated it to a quilting society here in Bendigo."
Mr Leamon said he learnt about the restoration project by reading the Bendigo Advertiser's recent reports about the quilt.
"It's a bit of a surprise really to be here today," he said.
"Because we knew the quilt had been given to the quilting society but I didn't realise it had been restored until we saw it in the paper.
"It's good to see it's been restored.
"It was such an old piece that it had become quiet frail."
