Demon delight as Sandhurst key-position player signs
WHITE Hills continues to build momentum ahead of the 2014 Heathcote District Football League season with another marquee signing in Jake Ward.
Demons coach Shaun Makepeace confirmed on Thursday key-position player Ward had joined the Demons from Sandhurst.
Ward has been one of the stars at Sandhurst in the Bendigo Football League for the past three years playing a mix of centre half-forward and centre half-back.
The signing of Ward comes 24 hours after White Hills announced they had secured another former Sandhurst player in experienced full-forward Ricky Symes.
"Jake has been a high-calibre player in the Bendigo league for a few seasons now and will be a great addition for us," Makepeace said.
"One of his great strengths is his versatility with his capacity to play at either end of the ground.
"At this stage, we'll look to play him up forward where he'll give us a really strong target to kick to."
As well as Symes and Ward, White Hills have also secured long-time South Bendigo defender Brad Wright and Bloods' small forward Alex Galea as key recruits.
Makepeace said the Demons were determined to make their mark on the HDFL next year, having not won a premiership since 1988 and making finals just six times since.
"We want to create a culture of success, which is something that has been lacking at the footy club."
