A BENDIGO Senior Secondary College student has won the 2014 Zonta Club of Bendigo Young Women in Public Affairs Award.
Student council president Breanna Tivendale won the award for her commitment to the volunteer sector, leadership achievements, involvement in student government and dedication to the advancement of the status of women.
Ms Tivendale said she was thrilled to win and hoped to inspire more women into government and leadership positions.
“I’d certainly like to see a more equitable distribution of female representation within our state and federal governments and in leadership roles in the public service, community and business sectors,” she said.
Ms Tivendale's community work includes International Women’s Day, Shave for a Cure, Biggest Morning Tea, Relay for Life and the Horizon Breakfast Van.
Zonta Club of Bendigo president Rosalie Lake said Ms Tivendale was a fitting winner. “Bree is an outstanding role model for young women not just throughout Bendigo, but nationwide,” she said. "Breanna is a great advocate for advancing the interests of young women in her local community and is clearly determined to make a difference.”
