A LACROSSE competition for Bendigo-based primary schools starts on Thursday evening at North Bendigo's Shadforth Park.
Mixed teams will take to the field at the Fenton Street oval to play under modified rules.
Students representing teams named Sioux, Cherokee, Navajo and Cheyenne will play on the lacrosse field.
Gino Iuliano from Bendigo Lacrosse said there will be four teams play in the primary school competition each Thursday.
Students from Girton Grammar, and Quarry Hill, California Gully, St Therese's, St Kilian's, Maiden Gully primary schools are involved.
"There will be a minimum of seven players per team on the field," Iuliano said.
"More players and teams are welcome," he said of joining up for the new competition.
Training for the teams will be run from 4.30pm until 5pm.
Matches are on between 5pm and 6pm.
New players are urged to be at Shadforth Park by 4.30pm on Thursday to be allocated to a team.
A big year for Iuliano has included Bendigo's play in the state lacrosse competition.
Bendigo's senior team played on fields across Melbourne and at Maiden Gully Recreation Reserve.
He also played a key role in Bendigo Senior Secondary College's campaign in the School Sport Victoria lacrosse competition.
