FAMILIES will have the chance to grieve on Saturday at SANDS Bendigo's second annual memorial service.
The event is designed for parents who have lost a baby through stillbirth, newborn death or miscarriage.
The service will be at the Bendigo Funeral Centre on Saturday at 2pm.
SANDS Bendigo facilitator Carmel Fitzgerald said anyone who had lost a baby, no matter how long ago, was welcome to attend.
“It will follow the same format as last year, so we’ll have some reflective readings or poems and we’ll have a candle-lighting ceremony,” she said.
“There’s a candle of hope and a candle of love and those sorts of things.
“We’ll give everyone the chance to come up and light from those candles a little tea light candle for their baby. And then they take that tea light candle home for them.
“Last year at the end of the ceremony we also had a big bowl of pure white sand that represented the purity of the little baby that had died and we invited people to come up and take a little bottle."
