AXEDALE'S Kris Mueck made a superb start to the WA Open in Thursday's round at the Mount Lawley course.
Mueck scored seven-under 65 and was on top of the leaderboard, although Grant Thomas was at -6 after 12 holes.
A birdie at the opening hole, the 10th, was the start of an amazing run by Mueck.
By the halfway mark he was at six-under and was joint leader with Troy Cox and Matt Jager, who had completed their rounds.
Mueck bidied the 12th, 13th, 14th, 16th and 17th, and parred the 11th, 15th and 18th.
At the turn he birdied the 1st, but then bogeyed the par four 2nd.
Mueck parred the next six holes before a birdie at the 9th.
Another of Bendigo's stars, Andrew Martin finished at one-under 71.His round included four birdies and three bogeys.
