A MAN was airlifted to the Alfred Hospital on Wednesday evening after his car collided with a semi-trailer.
The incident occurred about 6pm at the Lockwood Crossing on the Calder Alternative Highway.
An Ambulance Victoria spokesman confirmed about 8.15pm the man was in a critical condition with head, facial and arm injuries.
It is believed the truck driver was uninjured.
Sergeant Jason Hawke from Bendigo Police said the cause of the collision was still being investigated.
“A 55-year-old male driver was in the car, it’s stuffed,” he said.
“He was coming west along Lockwood Road and unfortunately turned left into the truck.
“We’re still investigating and talking to witnesses.”
