Migration is not a lasting solution
Often we are too busy getting on with our life and negotiating obstacles in our way, to see the general picture. As I have written once before, since the end of the World War II our population has trebled. At that staggering rate how long it will take before Australia will become overcrowded and polluted as some other continents? Before we experience violence, terrorism and fighting similar to other parts of the world? Newcomers keep applying increasing pressure on government to let more of their relatives and former countrypersons in. But migration is not a lasting solution of human problems. A better way to stop the alarming increase of population and pollution are voluntary restrictions and personal sacrifices. In the past nature was keeping down the number of living creatures with plagues and natural disasters. But we have learned how to overcome different diseases and minimise the effect of natural calamities. Subsequently countries are becoming overcrowded and are fighting each other for more space to live in.
Will message hit home?
It seems that, despite Christian faith muscular enough to rival the Prime Minister's, immigration minister Scott Morrison has identified pregnant women as the most malignantly nefarious people smugglers of all. A woman currently carrying twins, at 22 weeks' gestation, has been deported and will be forced to give birth in off-shore detention on Manus Island, where there are rudimentary sanitary conditions, no obstetric or maternal and child healthcare, and detainees are crammed together in tents in temperatures above 40 degrees celsius. She will, presumably, be the first of many mothers, babies and children whose fate we shall have little knowledge of, courtesy of our government's ongoing military-style information blackout on boat arrivals and off-shore detainees. Like climate change under a strong and stable Abbottocracy, this is how you "stop the boats" - you just declare them to be invisible. It is to be hoped that, as Christian Australians contemplate the story of the Holy Family in a few short months' time, the true horror of what their democratically elected government is doing, in their name, to asylum seekers will genuinely hit home. Despite the fact that it is not illegal to seek asylum in Australia by boat, Morrison declares that: "The government's policy is to provided no exemptions for off-shore processing for those who have arrived illegally by boat". Clearly this applies to even the unborn. Have Abbott and Morrison have resurrected and re-defined the concept of Original Sin to fulfill a political slogan?
Interfering is not the act of a Christian
Sorry to bring this up this late, but being in the USA, I have just read an article Battle of believers: witches accused of bringing devil to Wedderburn By Emma-Jayne Schenk Sept. 27, 2013. Why do some Christians not understand freedom of religion? The same right that gives you the right to believe your beliefs, and practice your beliefs is given to all other religions, whether you like them or not. Just as you have the right to bring Christian events to your community, gives Jacquie Stallinga and Gaye Washington the same right to bring their event to your community. Christian Church Pastor Maxine Tonkin stated, “This is a Christian community here and there has been a clash of beliefs.” No, there has been no clash of beliefs as the witches are not attacking your religion or trying to discourage its practice. There has only been some Christians bad mouthing another religion that they obviously know absolutely nothing about. As for Satan, the Christians brought him to town long ago, in fact it is mostly Christians who talk him up and make him sound powerful. Satan could not ask for better publicity than Christians give him. If you don't want to go to the event or don't want your children to go, that is your right. But you have no right to interfere with the event, nor prevent others from going. You have no right to slander the two ladies. Slander is still against the law, even in Australia. Blessed Be.
No wrong way to worship
There is no wrong way of worship your 'God'. Only Christianity preaches fear, doom, and does not give freedom in beliefs. We all strive for the one thing, peace and love. No one religion is right or wrong. Christianity in history has been cruel and dominating. Yet is is willing to adopt some Pagan symbols as their own.
