ALYSSA Creely’s elderly mother was in the back of her mind when she decided to help find missing Bendigo man, Peter Saunders.
Shirley McMahon went missing in May, sparking a frantic all-night search in Bendigo. She was found next day, cold and alone, but safe.
But Ms Creely has never forgotten the panic.
“It was the worst night of my life when we lost mum,” she said yesterday.
“On Saturday I was thinking, ‘this guy’s only a bit older than mum,’ and I couldn’t bear the thought that he might be just over at the football oval, and I could wake up next day and the news might not be good.
“I thought, it’s not going to hurt us just to go and have a quick look.”
Ms Creely, her boyfriend Paul O’Neil and daughter Tahnicia went for a drive and Ms Creely saw two feet sticking out of a bus shelter on Fenton Street.
They had found Mr Saunders, eight houses from Ms Creely's place, in under 30 minutes.
