NORTH Central's 15-and-under netballers can claim to be Victoria's best after storming to victory at the V/Line State Titles on Sunday.
The Betty McCoomb-coached side (pictured) squeezed into fourth spot after winning nine of their 15 round matches and saved their best for when it counted.
North Central swept past the previously undefeated Henderson 19-16 in their semi-final, before shutting-out Elmer 12-9 in the decider at the State Netball and Hockey Centre.
"I was just really looking to get into the top four and see how we go," McCoomb said.
"We got to fourth and I was like 'that's a fantastic effort girls and win, lose or draw in the semi-final you've made the final', but they won and they won again."
The 15s squad consisted of seven Bendigo Football Netball League players and three from the Echuca and District Netball Association.
"The most important part of it was they actually played as a team, it didn't matter which of the 10 were on court," McCoomb said.
Captain Elley Lawton, from Sandhurst, and vice-captain Abbey Ryan, from Golden Square, led the team brilliantly, McCoomb said.
Meanwhile, North Central's open team fought hard to also finish fourth after winning three games, losing three and drawing two.
The Janelle Hobbs-coached side again fell at the semi-final hurdle for the second year in a row - going down 17-12 to Dandenong Valley.
Gippsland took the title thanks to a gripping 11-10 grand final triumph.
North Central's 17-and-under side finished 11th after winning six of its 14 matches.
