THE final preparations for excavation of 75,000 cubic meters of soil are underway at the site of the new Bendigo Hospital.
Three excavators are currently on site.
Construction workers are set to remove the clean rock layer that was used to for the temporary car park at the site.
Soil is set to be removed from the Hope Street end of the site.
Piling for retention walls are also required at the Hope Street end of the site, with construction set to begin later this month.
Footings and the slab for the new hospital at the Arnold Street end is set to be laid in late November.
As the excavation progresses, the services tunnel connecting the Bendigo Hospital and Anne Caudle Centre will also be exposed.
The sewer that crossed the site has been successfully moved.
The water main is also set to be removed.
