IT wasn’t a normal sight at 4pm on a sunny Bendigo Saturday afternoon.
But there he was, an Elvis Presley impersonator juggling in front of Bendigo’s iconic fountain waiting for a tram.
Cars beeped, passers-by yelled out “Elvis”, and others took photos.
Elvis, also known as local musician Peter Reeves, was waiting for a tram full of women dressed in 1950s style for the hens party of Stephanie Flynn.
Ms Flynn’s mother, Jacinta, organised Elvis to entertain the party, with the bride-to-be with no clue of what was in store for her.
It was the first time Mr Reeves had donned the famous white suit.
“It’s actually my first gig as Elvis,” Mr Reeves said.
“I’ve sung and played in pubs for years, so I know a lot of Elvis songs.
“A friend of a friend recommended me for the job, and I just couldn’t say no.
"My job is to get in there and entertain them for 45 minutes."
Mr Reeves also worked as a clown in Melbourne for many years, honing his juggling skills.
He said there was something about Elvis which kept him popular generations after his death.
“He was the greatest entertainer of all time,” he said.
“It’s a lot of fun to be him.“
When Elvis got in the building, or tram, he received a response similar to that the King would have in his heyday.
There were screams, laughter and plenty of singing as Mr Reeves went through some of Elvis’ back catalogue, including Suspicious Minds and Blue Suede Shoes.
"This is amazing," Ms Flynn yelled.
Ms Flynn is getting married in two weeks.
Mother-of-the-bride Jacinta Flynn said Elvis was every bit as good as she thought he would be.
“I thought it would fit in with the 1950s theme, and it’s something fun,” she said.
"We just couldn't get anyone from Melbourne to come down so a friend told me about Peter and lucky he agreed to it.
“Stephanie had absolutely no idea but she’s absolutely loved it.”
The show went so well, Mr Reeves is now thinking of entertaining at parties more regularly.
"I'm definitely thinking I could do this in the future," he said.
“I think I could also do Rod Stewart or Roy Orbison.
“I’ll have to get my wife to make me some costumes.”
