The sun is shining on Heathcote this afternoon as thousands of people descend on the town for the annual Heathcote Food and Wine Festival.
About 45 local winegrowers are exhibiting through the two-day festival.
Gourmet food and local produce is also on offer.
Heathcote Winegrowers Association executive officer Henry Screen said it was great to see the sun shining down on Heathcote after last year’s downpour.
Mr Screen said the annual event was an important one for Heathcote.
“A lot of people are coming to Heathcote and realising what a great place for wine it is,” he said.
“Every year the food and wine show puts in about $300,000 into the economy.
“The festival is great for Heathcote.”
Mr Screen said ticket sales for this year’s event have been quite high.
“Over the weekend we are hoping for about 4000 people or more to come through the gates,” he said.
“A lot of locals come to the event but about 65 per cent of people that come are from Melbourne and about 5 or 10 per cent of people come from around the state.”
