Well, Good Morning Bendigo.
Apologies, little slow off the mark this morning.
It's a superb morning out there though, albeit a tad on the cool side.
What does Mother Nature have in store today?
The weather bureau says it's going to be 24 today - no excuses for not getting out and about in that weather!
All aboard - how are the trains running?
Nothing to report there, should be on time.
What made news overnight?
Pretty quiet overnight - nothing MAJOR to report.
The BIG news around today by the look is surrounding Dale Thomas and Heath Shaw who didn't turn up for Collingwood's best and fairest count last night. Clearly a few issues in Pie land.
On the local front, little Strathdale six-year-old James Ford needs everyone's help to raise $29,000 for a Righteous Pups assistance dog that can change his life.
And if you want something inspiring first up this morning, check out Raelee Tuckerman's great interview with Bendigo triathlete Donna MacCallum. Great stuff.
What we're chasing today...
The Heathcote Wine and Food Show is on.
The Blues Tram will roll through Bendigo with Jo Jo Smith belting out a few tracks... sorry, we know it's early but couldn't resist.
The Pioneers will be handing out their awards today.
Tonight, it's all about the Glass Slipper Ball - what an occasion. Check out their form in practice for tonight's big outing. Good luck to our very own deputy editor Nicole Ferrie who will dazzle everyone!
Some of the nation's best moto trial riders are heading to Sedgwick this weekend for the Australian championships. Riding motorbikes over granite rocks... WHAATTTT!!!!
Pssst, we've also heard a little rumour a certain Elvis impersonator is going to get a little hen-pecked in Bendigo today - stay tuned for what should be some great
Vote now on the REAL issue of the day
It seems the wind of this week, well, put the wind up everyone!
We asked the REAL issue question of what scares you most - wind, thunder or lightning.
Wind - hands down.
Wind got 68 per cent of the vote with thunder 23 and lightning nine per cent.
Happy birthday to you, happy birthday to you
If it's your birthday - CONGRATULATIONS!
Hopefully there's plenty of pressies in store today!
Did you know, you also share your birthday with Kate WInslet who turns 37, Jesse Eisenberg is 29, AC/DC frontman (what a legend) Brian Johnson is 65, George Zimmerman is 29, Guy Pearce (yep, what a Guy) is 45, Bob Geldof is 61, Nicky Hilton (the sensible one) is 29 and on a sadder note the late, great Bernie Mac would have been 56.
What's gone down on October 5....
So, what's October 5 famous for through history.
Well... you might ask...
In 610 Heraclius took Constantinople.
In 1895 the first individual time trial for racing cyclists was held on a 50-mile course north of London. Wonder if all those cyclists pounding along Sedgwick Road this morning know that little fact?
In 1900 Harry Vardon shoots a 313 at Chicago Golf Club in the 6th US Golf Open. Was he hitting the ball the wrong way or something? 313!
In 1924 the first Orphan Annie strip appeared in the NYC Daily News.
In 1947 the first US Presidential address was televised from the White House. Harry Truman did the honours!
Joke of the day... ha, ha, ha
Three vampire bats live in a cave surrounded by three castles.
One night, the bats bet on who can drink the most blood.
The first bat comes home with blood dripping off his fangs. He says, "See that castle over there? I drank the blood of three people."
The second bat returns with blood around his mouth. He says, "See that castle over there? I drank the blood of five people."
The third bat comes back covered in blood. He says, "See that castle over there?" The other bats nod. "Well," says the third bat, "I didn't."
Have a great day everyone!
