CASTLEMAINE woodcrafter Mark Wakeham loves making furniture from recycled wood.
He recently crafted two beautiful bedside tables from wooden pallets once destined for landfill.
He sourced the pallets from South Dandenong's Waste Converters depot.
Mr Wakeham has put his supports behind a Planet Ark campaign to encourage people to use recycled or responsibly-sourced wood.
Mr Wakeham said not only is recycled wood good for the environment, but it also produces beautiful and character-filled furniture.
“All sorts of different types of wood can be found in pallets,” he said.
“The ones that I used were made of elm and sycamore. Re-sawing revealed an interesting feature in the sycamore.
“The bedside tables allowed me to highlight the feature and rely on smaller portions of the available materials.”
