RAVENSWOOD teenager Lucas Herbert has won the Golf Victoria country championship crown.
The 17-year-old scored 76 in Tueday's final round at Royal Melbourne to win the 84th edition of the classic.
Golfers faced damp and windy weather on the West Course at Black Rock.
Herbert's charge to glory began with a one-under score of 71 in Monday's play at Settler's Run.
The overnight leader from Neangar Park Golf Club fired a closing round 76 for a two round total of 3 over-par 147 to win by a single stroke from Wodonga’s Zach Murray and Devil Bend’s Greg Wilson on 148.
Herbert’s name will now sit alongside the likes of Jarrod Lyle and Craig Scott as winners of the premier title for Victoria’s men golfers from country clubs.
Herbert also won the Junior trophy from Murray.
The Neangar Park member has had a superb run this year.
He played a key role in the successful run by Australia's junior team at the Ten Nations Cup in South Africa and runner-up finish at the Callaway Junior World Championship at Torrey Pines.
Herbert is a finalist in the Bendigo Bank-sponsored Bendigo Advertiser-WIN Television Sports Star of the Year award.
