JUST how big an opportunity was missed by the Bendigo Bank Braves this SEABL season will become clearer on Friday.
Gun import Ivan McFarlin and Sydney Kings forward Tom Garlepp are set to decide whether to return to Bendigo next season.
Two of the league's best talls, McFarlin and Garlepp would be tough to replace for coach Ben Harvey.
Both were key planks in the Braves run to their ill-fated east conference final.
"(Ivan's) D-day is Friday," Harvey said. "I probably don't think he'll play. The reality is he's got three kids, he's 31.
"But in saying that he earns a good wage with the club. He's doing what he loves. I wouldn't be surprised (either way)."
Harvey has sounded-out Garlepp and wants a decision by the end of the week.
Star guard Jazz Ferguson, who shared the Braves MVP with McFarlin this season, won't be back.
Harvey is confident of retaining his local players, but could still have a big rebuilding job on his hands.
"We missed an opportunity last season. There's a few unknowns at the moment, but it's my job to put a team together and I'll do that as best I can," Harvey said.
"I'm not losing any sleep yet. It's about trying to rebuild some of the losses I will have and we'll work hard to be a successful team again."
