Good morning Bendigo,
Well, last night was a bit Wizard of Oz, wasn't it?
I was glad to hear from the SES that there were no reports of houses blowing away or witches on broomsticks in Bendigo. (Although there have been reports in Wedderburn of the latter.)
For updates on the storm, click here.
Terrible, obviously! A max of 16 degrees and the chance of another thunderstorm early this morning. Clearing during the afternoon.
There is still a severe weather warning for the region for damaging winds.
There is also a warning issued to sheep graziers over the most of the state, as cold temperatures, showers and strong westerly winds are expected during Tuesday.
The Bureau of Meteorology warn there is a high risk of losses of lambs and sheep exposed to these conditions.
V/Line trains are running on time, despite the rain.
Chopper admitted to hospital
Mark ‘‘Chopper’’ Read was admitted to hospital with a ‘‘serious and ongoing illness’’ yesterday.
Read has liver cancer.
Manager Andrew Parisi said in a statement that Read was admitted to the Royal Melbourne Hospital on Monday.
Clarkson to stay at Glenferrie
Hawthorn coach Alistair Clarkson has confirmed he will be at the Hawks next year.
The reigning premiership coach laid to rest any speculation he would join West Coast during an interview with Mike Sheahan on television last night.
Clarkson also said he was disappointed in Sheahan for suggesting he was going to leave the Hawks, when he had no intention to.
WHAT WE'RE CHASING TODAY
- The impact of the storms on the region. If you have any photos, send them into email@example.com
- We'll be going to the first day of the Elmore Field Days.
- Taking photos of Bendigo's youngest for our Babies section.
Vote on the REAL issue: Do you agree with Queen - thunder n lightning... very, very frightening? Or is that wind?
Well, it seems Good Morning Bendigo readers don't care much for the summer of cricket ahead.
We asked the question: The footy is over - it's cricket season. What type of summer do you think Australia will have this year?
Who cares... how many days until footy starts again? was the top response with 63.2 per cent, followed by fantastic - a summer to remember on 21.1 per cent and horrid... England will belt us again on 15.8 per cent of the vote.
Looks like trade week is going to be popular as people find whatever they can to fill the void until the first bounce next year!
Happy birthday if your birthday is today! You share it with Julie Andrews, former US president Jimmy Carter and Gary Ablett Snr.
TODAY IS FAMOUS FOR...
1908 - The Model T automobile was introduced by Henry Ford. The purchase price of the car was $850
1970 - Jimi Hendrix was buried in Seattle, WA
1971 - Walt Disney World opened in Orlando, Florida
1999 - The 50th anniversary of the founding of the Peoples Republic of China was celebrated in Beijing.
JOKE OF THE DAY
The sergeant-major growled at the young soldier: “I didn’t see you at camouflage training this morning.”
He replied, “Thank you very much, sir.”
