RACING in this summer's Jayco Bay Criterium series is a goal Bendigo cyclist Ash Harvey is keen to pursue.
Harvey, 22, capped his first road season campaign by winning the prestigious Eaglehawk to Pyramid Hill 86km classic.
Racing off a mark of 14-minutes, Harvey reigned supreme in the bunch sprint.
"The bunch I was in worked really well to catch the groups in front, and hold off a lot of the chasing packs," said Harvey.
In the sprint near Pyramid Hill, Harvey beat Dean McNamara (18 mins), Joel Fahy (14), Kate Finegan (14), Terry Schintler (18), Steve Spencer (18), John Dam (14), Syd Anstee (18), Julian Thomson (21) and Phil Sawer (16).
Fastest time went to Sam Crome off scratch in two hours 31.50 minutes.
Most of Harvey's cycling career has been on mountain bikes the past eight years.
Harvey is also looking forward to criterium racing on the streets. He is coached by Matt Wallace.
Harvey is studying physical education-health at La Trobe University Bendigl.
The first leg in the Bendgo and District Cycling Club's criterium series was held on Sunday at Mayfair Park in Bendigo East.
Other rounds to be run this year will be on October 6, 13, 20 and 27; November 3, 10, 17, 14; and December 8.
The Bay Criterium series is in January.
