RESULTS from the Ewes for the Future trial will be a highlight in the Elmore Field Days shearing shed.
The trial, conducted by DEPI with BestWool/Best Lamb and the Elmore Field Days committee, began in 2009 with 210 ewe lambs from five breeds: crossbreed ewes, Peppin merino, centre plus merinos, Dohne and SAMM (South African Meat merino).
The trial aims to compare the merits of each breed. At the field days farmers can hear an overview and results of the trial and watch the ewes in the trial being shorn.
They will also be able to watch a post-mortem of a lamb with commentary by the DEPI, which is investigating why lambs die.
In the field days' 50th year, shearing gear from 1964 will be on display, and blade and narrow-gear shearing demonstrations held daily.
