FALCONS soared to a 14th consecutive A-grade baseball premiership after it won Sunday's decider in the best-of-three series against Scots.
A superb grand final series for the Bendigo Baseball Association was not decided until the bottom of the eighth inning on the Strathfiedsaye diamond.
Scots' pitcher Sean Meldrum and Falcons' pitcher Troy Waterman did not concede a run in the first five innings.
Just seven runners had reached first base to the end of the fifth.
At the top of the sixth, Mick Peters went to the plate for Falcons and achieved a lead-off double.
Nathan Healey's long drive put Peters across home plate and Falcons in front.
Daryl Muns led off the seventh inning for Falcons with a single up the middle. Falcons coach Kirby Moon used the short game to move runners into a scoring position.
Dougles by Jonathon Van der Hagen and Nethan Healey helped Falcons score three runs and a 4-0 lead.
Aaron Petri pitched for Scots in the eighth and kept Falcons scoreless.
Scots needed four runs to tie the game and break the 26-year premiership drought. Meldrum led off with a safe hit to centre field.
Marchesani's long fly to the right went to the fence from where Brad Muns retrieved the ball as Meldrum rounded third base.
The Scots coach slid to the plate to bring up the team's first run as Marchesani reached third base and then scampered home on the next play. A double by Tyson Cox kept the game alive.
Although he had pitched an amazing game, Waterman was tiring, so Muns was called up to pitch.
Scots upped the pressure and had Wilkie at second and Cox on third base.
A safe hit would tie the game, but Muns held his nerve and the hit was caught by Josh Brown in centre field to end the series.
