AN East Bendigo woman is upset and angry after the cat she was looking after was attacked and killed by a dog on Saturday afternoon.
Jenni Childs was alerted to a scuffle between a dog and her cat, after she heard thumping and yelling noises outside her home at about 3.30pm.
She ran outside and saw an elderly lady and young boy with two dogs and her cat, Oscar, lying on the ground.
"I could hear people yelling and a thumping noise so I ran outside and stuck my head over the fence," she said.
"I saw my cat lying on the ground and yelled out, 'Is that my cat?'.
"The lady said one of the dogs had broken the leash and got away from her.
"She said the same thing happened last week that the dog had killed a fox.
"I was really angry."
Ms Childs said she was looking after her cat for her daughter who was overseas.
She said breaking the news to her was heart-wrenching.
"They are the worst phone calls of your life," she said.
"He may have just been a cat to some but he was a living member of our family who was taken from us in such a terrible way.
"I cry when I think of his last memories."
Ms Childs said she had contacted the RSPCA but because she had no information about the dog there was little that could be done.
"I know when the lady left for her walk she didn't plan to kill a cat," she said.
"But I am really worried about what the dog will kill next time."
