STRATHFIELDSAYE has stormed into its first seniors grand final in the Bendigo Football League.
Storm weathered a spirited challenge from Eaglehawk to win Saturday night's preliminary final at the QEO by 20 points.
After being down by a goal at three quarter-time, Storm slammed on 4.5 to 0.3 in the last term.
Final scores: Strathfieldsaye Storm 14.15 (99) d Eaglehawk 11.13 (79).
In just its fifth year in existence, Strathfieldsaye will now tackle Golden Square, which is gunning for a fifth consecutive premiership, in next Saturday's battle for the Bendigo Advertiser cup.
Saturday night's preliminary final was marked by brilliant goals, superb chases and tackles, bumps, and more.
The margin blew out to 21 points after a flying start by the Darryl Wilson and Wayne Schultz-coached Storm.
But from there the Luke Monaghan-coached Eaglehawk kept fighting back and eventually hit the front in the third term.
The Hawks hopes of another grand final appearance plummeted in the last 10 minutes of the match as Storm took control through the likes of Shaun Everington, Nick Smith, Jake Hall, Lachlan Sharp and ruckman Michael Pilcher.
Storm's Lachlan Sharp finished with a match-high five goals and full-forward Sam Mildren booted four.
Eaglehawk's Kain Robins turned the contest on its head as he dominated across the half-forward line in the third quarter.
The Hawks fought back from a nine-point deficit at half-time with goals by Robins (2) and Matt Gretgrix (2).
A strong defence did well to limit Storm to 2.2.
Both of Storm's goals were booted by Mildren, the second after a brilliant steal in the pocket.
Strathfieldsaye started the last term with a goal by Ryan Weeding on its first entry inside the 50m arc.
It was 78-all in the 12th minute, but goals by Shaun Everington and Sharp gave Storm a crucial buffer.
When Sharp was on target again the Storm was through to the fight with Square for the flag.
The lowlight for Storm was captain Shannon Geary being on the bench for all of the last quarter after injuring his leg.
Eaglehawk's best included Robins, Josh Ketterer, Darcy Richards, Glenn Daly and Damian Wust.
