NAVARRE is through to its third-straight Maryborough-Castlemaine District Football League grand final after a stunning upset over Carisbrook today.
The Grasshoppers inflicted Carisbrook's first loss of the season in their 13.12 (90) to 13.8 (86) preliminary final victory at Princes Park.
The Redbacks had gone into the game 17-0 and with an average winning margin of more than 100 points, but their season of dominance all counts for nothing after they failed to make the grand final.
The Grasshoppers trailed by 21 points at quarter-time and 13 at half-time.
However, they kicked eight goals to six after the main break to advance to the grand final.
Ben Scott kicked five goals for the Grasshoppers, whose best were Brian Lovison, who tagged Matthew Bilton, Josh Driscoll, Rhett Murphy and Nicholas Murphy.
Jay Anderson, Clayton Furniss and co-coach Luke Treacy were the better players for the Redbacks.
Key forward Nathan Wright kicked four goals, all early in the game.
Navarre will play the winner of tomorrow's preliminary final between Newstead and Lexton in next week's grand final.
