WHAT a big day of footy action across central Victoria today.
HEATHCOTE DISTRICT FOOTBALL LEAGUE:
It's grand final day in the HDFL today at Elmore, with Lockington-Bamawm United and Huntly to fight for the flag.
Which ever way the result goes, there's going to be a good story.
If the Cats win, they will have completed a flag hat-trick, having also won the past two premierships.
One flag is hard enough to win, let alone three in a row.
On the other hand, Huntly is playing in its first HDFL grand final, while the Hawks are also chasing their first premiership since 1940.
The rise of Huntly has been well documented this week.
It was only two years ago that the Hawks claimed their 10th wooden-spoon in a row, but here they are on grand final day.
What a turn around for the Hawks.
The Cats go into the grand final as favourites, but the Hawks have been good enough to beat then once this season, winning by 11 points in round three.
That has been the only defeat the Cats have suffered this year.
It should be a cracking game of footy between the two best sides of the year.
BENDIGO FOOTBALL LEAGUE:
Who will advance to next week's grand final - Strathfieldsaye or Eaglehawk?
The Storm and Hawks will lock horns in tonight's BFL preliminary final at the QEO from 6pm.
Awaiting the winner in the grand final next week is four-time defending premiers Golden Square.
The Hawks are back up and about after their 64-point belting of Gisborne in last week's first semi-final.
Can the Storm bounce back from the disappointment of last week when they blew a 34-point half-time lead in the second semi-final and lost to Golden Square by eight points?
The Storm defeated the Hawks by 59 and 32 points in their two home and away meetings.
And don't forget tomorrow, the spotlight remains on the BFL when the Michelsen Medal count is held at the All Seasons.
There's plenty of leading contenders for the medal, including Josh Gribben, Kain Robins, Brodie Filo, Casey Summerfield, Mark Lloyd, Simon Rosa, Mitch Hough, Tim Martin, Mitch Dole, Wayne Schultz, Matthew Ladson and Shaun Everington.
NORTH CENTRAL FOOTBALL LEAGUE:
St Arnaud and Wedderburn lock horns in today's preliminary final at Boort.
The winner will meet Charlton in next week's grand final.
Wedderburn - which has won the past three flags - heads into the game with the better form, having won its past seven games.
The Redbacks have had a week off, while the Saints last week went down to Charlton by 28 points in the second semi-final, but have a double chance.
MARYBOROUGH CASTLEMAINE DISTRICT FOOTBALL LEAGUE:
It's the first of the preliminary finals today when Carisbrook meets Navarre at Princes Park.
The Redbacks are undefeated and raging hot favourites to move through to another grand final.
Navarre - striving to get into its third grand final in a row - is the only team to have got within 40 points of the Redbacks this season.
Tomorrow, Newstead meets Lexton in the second preliminary final at Princes Park.
