Good morning Bendigonians.
I hope everyone is feeling well this morning.
It is another bumper weekend for central Victorians, with a range of different events on to keep you busy.
A top of 17 degrees today, with a chance of a shower or two later this morning. To out more detailed weather news here.
It does appear that V/line trains to Melbourne are running smoothly this morning.
Cab drivers target women
According to specialist doctors women are being sexually assaulted by taxi drivers as they leave clubs and parties.
Statewide research conducted by the Victorian Institute of Forensic Medicine shows that most victims have been picked up in the early hours of Saturday and Sunday mornings.
Australia on the brink of victory at Davis Cup tie
Aussies Lleyton Hewitt and Bernard Tomic have put Australia 2-0 with straight-set wins in Poland overnight.
If Hewitt and his doubles partner Chris Guccione can secure a win today then Australia will return to the Davis Cup World Group after seven years.
WHAT WE’RE CHASING TODAY
Some of the things you will see Addy journalists and photographers at today are:
- It is day two of the Bendigo District Convention of Jehovah’s Witnesses. More than 3000 delegates have travelled to the city for the three-day event.
- This afternoon Lockington-Bamawm United take on Huntly in the Heathcote District Football League grand final.
Vote now: The REAL issue of the day
Well, the results of our first REAL issue of the day are in - cheese or chicken Twisties?
Thankfully, we are proud to report tradition has survived.
Cheese Twisties are Bendigo's favourite.
The poll attracted 107 votes with cheese Twisties getting 62.8 per cent and those disgraceful chicken ones 37.2 per cent (what were you people thinking!).
Now... soup... a main or an entree - you decide!
Birthdays... many happy returns!
If it's your birthday today... many happy returns!
Did you know you share your birthday with some famous people.
That very famous Danish geographer Claudius Clavus was born in 1388.
It's the 14th and numbers were important to Russian mathematician Nikolai Bugaev who was born in 1837.
Oh, that Flemish actor Gaston Vandermeulen was born in 1904.
Okay, we don't know who those guys were either, so here's some you might know.
Australian actress Zoe Caldwell was born in 1933, that New Zealand (He's actually British and, yep, Australia claims him just like Phar Lap) actor Sam Neill was born in 1947, former Russian president Dmitry Medvedev in 1965, the late (so sad) Amy Winehouse in 1983 and American actor Jesse James in 1989.
If you know someone having a birthday or special milestone today or coming up, send us an email and we'll send out a cheerio!
JOKE OF THE DAY
There once was a chicken that wanted to cross the road. On the other side of the road was a man.
The chicken asked who are you? The man replied, “Bond, James Bond.”
The man then asked the chicken, “who are you?” The chicken replied, “Ken, Chick Ken.”
Got another joke? Any tips on what we should be heading out to today? Send it in to Kristen.email@example.com
Have a good day,
