WORK has started on the dangerous Ravenswood Interchange, according to state Roads Minister Terry Mulder.
Mr Mulder, who visited the site on Friday, said VicRoads had already started planning the upgrades.
Emergency service personnel welcomed an August announcement that the interchange would be fixed in an $86 million revamp.
“It’s absolutely fantastic news, it’s exactly what we need,” Lockwood CFA First Lieutenant David Hutchings said.
“I’m sick of having to respond to accidents at that intersection.
“It will be brilliant to not have to get up in the middle of the night and to not deal with the after-effects of an accident at that intersection.
“The funding is awesome.”
Mr Mulder said on Friday VicRoads had started preliminary planning, with land acquisition to follow.
