OIL and pastel paintings will feature this weekend as the Y Service Club of Kangaroo Flat hosts its annual exhibition.
Members of the club spent yesterday hanging more than 100 artworks before the launch today.
The annual exhibition will be opened tonight by City of Greater Bendigo councillor Rod Fyffe and runs until Sunday.
Vice president of the Kangaroo Flat Y Service Club Christine Van Der Zee said the group was expecting about 150 entries with some entries coming from as far as Queensland.
While not an artist herself, Ms Van Der Zee was excited to see what the exhibition had in store as well as what people thought of the artworks.
“We get a few people from Bendigo, the surrounding district and out of town,” she said.
“We had people from Adelaide last year and have been told it’s one of the best exhibitions in Bendigo.
“(Cr Fyffe) has always given us very good support for the art exhibition and has been with us for a few years.”
This year is the eighth year the Y Service Club has hosted the exhibition.
“We feature pastels and oil paintings mostly of landscapes,” Ms Van Der Zee said.
“There are a couple of abstract but nothing like those really modern one you see on very large boards.”
The exhibition is part of a number of art-based events on in Bendigo this weekend.
The Bendigo Art Gallery launched the Speak to Me exhibition last weekend.
The technology-based, modern exhibition continues this weekend with locals Dean Stanton and Paul Fletcher presenting an unique musical presentation - Handmade Music - alongside Melbourne-based artist Benjamin Kolaitis and Rod Cooper.
It takes place tomorrow at 11.30am on Saturday at the Bendigo Art Gallery.
The event also coincides with the Bendigo International Festival of Exploratory Music, which runs until Sunday.
