Polling booths opened at 8am, and families on their way to sports competitions and other
Saturday events were eager to get in early.
Eaglehawk North Primary School was abuzz with activity, thanks to a visit from The Today Show, and queues at other polling booths throughout the region steadily grew throughout the day.
Sausages were the snack of choice, with volunteers cooking barbecues while political party representatives were busy handing out campaign material to voters.
James and Joanne Boyd cycled to the polling booth at the Strathfieldsaye Sports Club with their children Alysha, 5, and Campbell, 8.
“It’s a beautiful day and we had to vote so we thought we’d go for a family bike ride,” Ms Boyd said.
Other voters at the Strathfieldsaye Sports Club, including Michael Grounds and Rob Leetham, took the chance to show off their pooches.
At Saint Monica’s Primary School, Sue and Phillip Whitlock were making the most of time with their grandson Jesse.
“We’re babysitting for the day,” Ms Whitlock said.
“His mum’s about to have another baby, so we’re giving her a rest.
“He’s spending the day with us, so he’s come along with us while we’re voting. It’s a lovely day.”
