BENDIGO Greens candidate Lachlan Slade has welcomed the ALP’s DisabilityCare timeline.
Local Labor candidate Lisa Chesters said the government would work towards a July 2016 insurance scheme rollout in Bendigo if re-elected.
Mr Slade said a speedy rollout of the scheme was critical.
“The Greens remain very committed to NDIS care and want to see it rolled out as soon as possible to all communities in Australia,” he said.
“And Bendigo is one region we want to see it delivered as soon as possible.
“As far as the Greens’ policy goes, we know DisabilityCare is something we’ve been passionately advocating for.
“We were advocating for it before Labor and the Liberals did.”
Mr Slade said the program would improve access to employment.
“There are a lot of people with disabilities who don’t have access to employment when they’re quite employable,” he said.
“I think DisabilityCare is one big step in the right direction but there are many more steps to take.
“I welcome Lisa Chesters to take those steps with the Greens.”
Mr Slade said he was concerned the scheme would be delayed if the Coalition was elected.
“We do not want to see an Abbott-led government slow this down,” he said.
