BUDDING young chefs say they have been inspired by what a former Bendigo Senior Secondary College student has done on Network Ten’s cooking competition, MasterChef.

Emma Dean was crowned the 2013 MasterChef champion on Sunday night, with many students from her old school cheering her on in the finale.
Year 11 cooking student Cody Browne said when he leaves school he hoped to follow in her foot steps and become a chef.
Cody said he was proud to see a Bendigo person win the prestigious cooking competition.
“I thought it was really good when all of a sudden she was behind and then gained some ground, especially with the last dessert,” he said.
“She made up some ground with the crunch of the Pavlova and the consistency of the puree; I just thought it was really inspiring.”
Ms Dean was also a student at Catholic College Bendigo from Year 7 to Year 10.
She went to primary school at Epsom Primary School.
School principal Kerry McGuffie said the entire primary school was proud to see Ms Dean hold the MasterChef trophy aloft.
“She was a student at the school in the 1980s,” she said.
“One of our teachers, Jenny Ashby taught her when she was little.”
Mrs McGuffie said photos of Ms Dean were passed around at yesterday’s school assembly.
“Emma is a great example for our students to look up to,” she said.
“One of our school values is pride and we are all very proud of what she has been able to do.”
