ALANAH Brand can reel off a list of women she admires.
There is her mum Robyn, her grade 5 drama teacher Jo and members of local choir Forever Young.
There are also more public profiles including advocate for victims of domestic violence Angela Barker and former prime minister Julia Gillard. Ms Brand, who is studying Visual Arts at La Trobe University Bendigo, has painted portraits of each of these women as part of her honour studies.
Ms Brand has also written a narrative to accompany each painting.
“I love painting but also these are gifts to these women, I wanted to paint them in a way that eludes to their inner beauty,” she said.
Ms Brand intends to give each of the women their portraits and read them the narratives as a part of her work. She said it would be her dream for Ms Gillard to open her exhibition on September 19.
“I contacted her personal assistant to see if it was possible to give her the artwork,” she said. “She is such a strong and resilient women, despite everything she has been through.
Ms Brand’s exhibition will be held in Allan’s Walk from
September 19 to 23, from 11am to 3pm.
