THE Department of Environment and Primary Industries has issued a warning on lighting campfires in prohibited areas.
A 40 year-old Maryborough man was last week fined $250 and placed on a six-month good-behaviour bond after pleading guilty to three offences relating to a campfire. The Magistrates Court heard that in January the man had left a campfire unattended and failed to clear an area around it.
The man was charged for allowing a fire to remain alight on a day of Total Fire Ban. No conviction was recorded.
Department of Environment and Primary Industries forester in charge Paul Bates said it was a reminder of restrictions to look out for.
“The campfire was lit the night before and hadn’t been totally extinguished on the day of Total Fire Ban.”
