BENDIGO swimmer Jenna Strauch finished narrowly outside the medal places in the girls' 50m breaststroke at the World Junior Swimming Championships overnight (AEST).
Strauch's 31.68s swim saw her touch the wall in fifth place - just .30s behind bronze medal winner Sophie Taylor from Great Britain.
Lithuanian sensation Ruta Meilutyte dominated the field on her way to the gold medal.
Meilutyte's 29.86s swim was a new championship record and only .38s outside the world record.
Ukraine's Viktoriya Solnceva won silver, but was nearly one-and-a-half seconds behind Meilutyte.
Strauch - who now swims for Melbourne Vicentre after relocating about two years ago - qualified fourth-fastest for the final in 31.50s.
