BENDIGO has seen an almost 20 per cent rise in the amount of offences recorded in the past year.
Victoria Police released its 2012/2013 annual crime statistics on Wednesday morning.
The total number of offences recorded from July last year to June 30 this year was 7779, up from 6559 last year.
The numbers of assaults reported has jumped 25 per cent.
But the number of burglaries and thefts from motor vehicles were significantly less this year.
The overall recorded crime rate, which is measured as a rate per 100,000 of the population, across the region has increased by 16 per cent from 6438.7 to 7512.3.
The Bendigo statistics are significantly more than average for Victoria.
The total number of offences recorded across the state is up by 3.4 per cent and the recorded crime rate has increased by only 1.6 per cent.
