A MAN has been arrested in a dramatic manner outside Bendigo Centrelink after he produced a knife inside the office.
Witnesses said up to 100 people were inside the building when the man produced the weapon.
A member of the public and Centrelink staff approached the man who waved the weapon around, witnesses said.
Police arrested the man and a boy outside the office around 1.30pm.
A woman accompanied police to the station a short time later.
Police retrieved two knives from a bin outside the Bendigo Town Hall, which a witness says the boy had placed there.
A witness said the trio tried to flee the scene in a black Holden Astra but were arrested.
Acting Sergeant Erin Coleman said police would retrieve CCTV footage from the station.
She said the three people who were related were assisting police with enquiries.
