LOCKINGTON-Bamawm United has the chance to win eight premierships to go with its status as the Heathcote District Football-Netball League’s champion club for 2013.
The Cats top the Bendigo Advertiser’s HDFNL champion club ladder for a home and away season in which they won 107 of their 142 games across their three football and six netball teams.
The Cats have eight of their nine teams in the finals, which begin tomorrow at Gunbower.
As unlikely as it may seem considering its recent domination of the competition, the only Cats’ team to miss the finals is their under-17 footballers, who have won five of the past six flags.
The Cats had five of their teams finish on top of the ladder – senior and reserves football, plus A grade, A reserve and 15-under netball.
Mount Pleasant has also performed well in the home and away season to finish second on the club ladder.
Mount Pleasant’s senior football team may have missed the finals again, but the Blues have their other eight sides all playing finals.
Seven of the Blues’ eight finals teams have double chances after finishing in the top three.
Elmore, which won just 22 games for the year, is the only club not to have any teams in the finals.
Apart from the Bloods, the other eight clubs all have at least three teams in the finals and are all represented in both football and netball.
In the senior football, this year will be the first time since 1988 the finals won’t feature any of Colbinabbin, Mount Pleasant or Elmore.
