JUNORTOUN Post Office and General Store owner Bryce Watson is relieved an alarm system scared off thieves who broke into his store on Monday night.
Several premises in Huntly, Junortoun, Golden Square and Bendigo East were broken into on Monday night. Computer equipment and money was stolen.
Police believe the thefts are related because of the time period they occurred.Mr Watson said neighbours alerted him to a disturbance at his shop at about 1.45am.
“We got called in because the alarm was going off and we found the door to our shop was wide open,” he said.
“We walked in there with torches not knowing if they were still in there or not.”
Mr Watson said the burglars caused a significant mess in the mail sorting room, but were unable to get into the main store and left empty-handed. He said the offenders had used significant force to break into the business.
Mr Watson said he was fortunate that a good alarm system and good neighbours stopped the thieves before they took anything. Bendigo police are calling on anyone with information on Monday night’s thefts to contact them on 5448 1300.
