YOUNG patients at the Maryborough District Health Service have something to smile about after a donation from the local Red Cross Society.
About 20 colourful teddy bears made their way into the Maryborough District Health Service reception this week.
Nursing executive director Fiona Brew said the hospital could be overwhelming for young people.
“These teddy bears are a great way to share with young patients the story of their treatment while in hospital,” she said.
“Nurses may use the teddy bear to demonstrate a broken bone or point to where pain may be experienced.”
At the end of the young patients time in the hospital the teddy will also go home with them. “We really are very grateful for the support of the Red Cross members,” Ms Brew said.
