ROD Leunig's message to voters:
MY name is Rod Leunig and I am standing as the Country Alliance Candidate in the 2013 Federal election for the House of Representatives seat of Bendigo.
Country Alliance's main focus is on rural and regional Australia. We believe that the people outside capital cities should enjoy the same equality of opportunity and access to health, education and good infrastructure.
We believe that governments should decentralise departments, especially those with strong rural connections, for example roads, agriculture and Centrelink to regional areas.
We believe rural sustainable resource-based industries like logging, mining and fishing should have reasonable access to public lands and maritime areas. Valued rural recreation areas should not be locked up in national and marine parks.
Australia is an energy-rich country. So why should our businesses and households pay the same for energy as countries that do not have energy resources? We would scrap the Carbon Tax and phase out the renewable energy initiative.
We believe in fair trade between countries, not necessarily free trade.
Australia must regain control of its borders and, as a nation, decide our refugee and migrant intake – not other governments and people smugglers.
We believe our policy towards Indigenous Australians should be away from welfare and towards self support through business development.
We also have concerns for our senior citizens who have toiled long and hard during their working lives. I believe the pension age should remain at 65 and not be raised to 67.
Our party coined the phrase "Put the Greens last". To go another term with the same Labor-Green coalition would be a disaster for rural and regional Australia.
