A “SIGNIFICANT” funding announcement will be made at the Bendigo Botanic Gardens on Tuesday.
Bendigo Labor candidate Lisa Chesters will announce funds for the gardens with mayor Lisa Ruffell and the Friends of the Bendigo Botanic Gardens around midday.
The council last month endorsed plans to seek about $1.6 million from the state and federal governments to upgrade gardens and streetscapes.
Councillors noted it would be a long-term project and Cr Ruffell said it would benefit the entire region.
“It’s about the region,” she said.
“The region really loves this; it’s a place for everybody.
“The animals were fantastic at the time, but it was time to move on and really set up the botanic gardens.”
Ms Chesters said details of the funding and how it will be spent would be revealed in Tuesday's announcement.
