IVY Norton had 100 reasons to smile on Saturday.
The Kangaroo Flat resident celebrated her 100th birthday surrounded by family and friends from Benetas St Lawrence Court.
Ms Norton said she never imagined celebrating the milestone.
“I only just remember a little bit of my birthday last year,” she said.
“I never thought I would make it to 100. I have always tried to do the right thing by my family and to be happy.”
Ms Norton was born in Leicester, England, and worked for most of her life in fashion retail.
She married Tom Norton in 1937 and a couple of years later her son John was born.
Ms Norton and her husband moved to Australia in the late 1970s to join John and his family.
John Norton said his mum had always been his best friend.
“She looked after me during the war,” he said. “Mum is my best pal.” Mr Norton also said his mother was an accomplished pianist. “She has played the piano for years and years,” he said.
“I love listening to her play.”
He said she was a wonderful lady with a cheeky sense of humour.
