Today Show presenter makes ammends

TODAY show presenter Leila McKinnon has apologised for an on-air gaffe that implied Bendigo was in the middle of nowhere.

Mike Dalton broadcast weather updates for the show from Lake Weeroona on Sunday.

As reported in the Bendigo Advertiser on Monday, Ms McKinnon suggested Mr Dalton was broadcasting from the "middle of nowhere".

“He’s doing a good job in the middle of – I won’t say nowhere – Bendigo,” she said.

Mr Dalton also referred to the city as “Ballarat”.

Radio station 3B0 launched a campaign to boycott the show following the story, which attracted more than 700 likes on Facebook.

Ms McKinnon made an apology on 3BO's Morning Show on Tuesday.

Presenter Sam Hargreaves said some people had criticised his stance on the issue but said it had always been “a bit tongue in cheek”.

“She was very keen to come on and just face the music and give a very heartfelt apology to Bendigo and central Victoria,” he joked.
