The milestone will be marked with a dinner at The Theatre Royal in Castlemaine tomorrow at 6.30pm.
Guests of honour will include: Labor member for Western Victoria Jaala Pulford; Labor candidate for Bendigo Lisa Chesters; Federal member for Bendigo Steve Gibbons MP; member for Bendigo West Maree Edwards; member for Bendigo East Jacinta Allan and former Bendigo West MP Bob Cameron.
Branch secretary Marie Jones said Ms Chesters would be the key speaker for the night.
“It’s been quite interesting with the bookings considering the things that have been going on up in Canberra with the change of leadership,” Ms Jones said.
“I wasn’t quite sure what the reaction of people would be.
“We had one cancellation but we had four new requests to come to the dinner.”
Ms Jones said the branch’s numbers had nearly doubled this year.
“Everyone’s suddenly become quite passionate about politics again,” she said. Ms Jones said ensuring people understood party policies and encouraging younger generations to enrol to vote were the branch’s two key issues.
“People overseas kill each other to have a democracy where you can vote and we treat ours a bit like confetti sometimes,” she said.
Ms Jones has been busy collecting information about the branch’s history in the lead up to the event.
