A 23-year-old Bendigo man has been taken to hospital with a severely broken ankle.
The water police from Melbourne will investigate the incident.
Police at the scene said the man arrived at Lake Eppalock about 11am and had been trying to start the vessel when it blew up from underneath him.
Strangers pulled him from the water and called emergency services.
Police say the jet ski had just been serviced and are making further inquiries.
Ambulance Victoria spokesman John Mullen said the man had been taken to Bendigo Health by ambulance.
“He’s got some minor burns to legs and a broken ankle.
“He’s going to Bendigo by road ambulance but he is in a stable condition.”
