Eaglehawk’s David Place, 24, was convicted of unlawful assault and damaging property by Chief Magistrate Peter Lauritsen in the Bendigo Magistrates Court on Tuesday.
He was also found to have broken a family intervention order his mother had placed against him the week before the attack.
Police prosecutor Leading Senior Constable Denis Farrell said Mr Place had a disagreement with his mother on April 10 this year about a guest who was staying at her home.
“The disagreement escalated and the accused began pushing the victim, pulling her hair and kicking her with his left foot, causing considerable pain,” Leading Senior Constable Farrell said.
Mr Place admitted to police after his arrest that he was in a “heavily drug-affected state” at the time of the incident.
The court heard Mr Place had a significant addiction to methamphetamine but was put into an enforced detox after his arrest and has been drug-free since.
Defence lawyer Kate Youngson said Mr Place’s mother was keen to resume contact with her son and remove the intervention order.
“The enforced detox was the catalyst for David being able to address his intoxication issues,” Ms Youngson said.
